Toronto, Ont. — The countdown to Toronto’s Festival of Beer is well under way, with less than four months until the first keg is tapped. While beer is center stage, the Festival’s organizers are thrilled to announce that Big Sugar and reggae legend Willi Williams will be performing on Sunday, July 28, live at Bandshell Park in Exhibition Place, Toronto as part of the annual celebration of suds.
“Whenever we look at talent for the main-stage, we always consider the vibe it will create for our consumer. Great Beer from around the globe, some outdoor grillin by some of Hogtown’s most exciting Chef’s, all mixed in with some roots and reggae seemed like a no brainer to us!” – says Festival President Les Murray.
Big Sugar has always been known for its powerful, high volume performances that combine rock, reggae, jazz and blues. From their first radio hit “Diggin’ a Hole” to last year’s top 10 song “Roads Ahead,” the band continues to create innovative music. This year, the band is thrilled to feature reggae legend Willi Williams as part of the Big Sugar family for their show at Toronto’s Festival of Beer. Willi Williams was a founding member of reggae genre as the renowned writer and singer of “Armagideon Time,” a beloved and popular reggae anthem covered by The Clash, among others. In 2012, Willi recorded and released a new song “Bust No Guns” with Big Sugar after a highly successful national tour.
There is a lot of great entertainment at Toronto’s Festival of Beer this year on the main stage and some of Canada’s Top Chefs are featured in the the grilling tent. The Festival also hosts some great satellite events throughout he year like Taps and Tunes, as well as the Ontario Brewing Awards (OBAs) which are just some of the festival’s sattelite featured events. Ted Reader will once again play culinary host in the grilling tent and he has invited many of his celebrated culinary brethren to join him.
The main stage will also feature Escort, a contemporary disco band from Brooklyn, and De La Soul from Long Island, on Friday July 26 and on July 27, platinum award-winning band The Spin Doctors will perform on the main stage playing hits like “Two Princes,” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.”
Relaxing and being entertained often makes you hungry and thirsty. Luckily, Toronto’s Festival of Beer has many flavours for every appetite. This year’s food vendors include the Texas Tornado, Tiny Tom Donuts, Oyster Boy, Smoke’s Poutinerie and MELT Grilled Cheese, to name a few. Each year, Toronto’s Festival of Beer acts as a hub for brewers from all over the world to exhibit their golden nectar and this year is no exception. Exhibitors have travelled across Canada and around the world to make their mark on Canadians at Toronto’s Festival of Beer. Some of the craft beers from our own backyard include Steam Whistle, Wellington Brewery and William Premium Cider, and international brews range from Tsingtao, Asahi and Signha.
